Orthodoxy, G.K. Chesterton

"Christianity answers life's fundamental questions."
In Orthodoxy by G.K. Chesterton, he defends the faith and religion of Christianity based on his personal convictions and commitments.

He begins his argument by stating that it is insanity to believe in ourselves and not a higher being.

The modern philosophers would question everything and the world around them and dismiss religion altogether; Chesterton argued that this was preposterous as Christianity answers life’s fundamental questions. The endless mysteries of the world keep humanity humble, and some things are left for us to never know in this lifetime. However, Christianity allows optimism and pessimism to know just enough about this lifetime and not enough to keep us dependent on God.

Christianity is not simply a way of thought but a worldview outside of oneself that is worth dying for -- as Chesterton analyzes the sacrifice of a martyr. Chesterton argues that Christianity should not be rejected by humanity and that all should come to understand this world in light of Christ.
